A joint programme for vessels operating in high risk waters
Solace Communications is working with DNK under its Selected Vendor Programme to make resilient position reporting available to DNK members operating where GNSS disruption is a real operational risk.
Vector M is designed and manufactured in the UK. Its hardware design, fusion software and service platform are developed and controlled by Solace, combining the latest Iridium PNT silicon with dual-band GNSS, inertial sensing, high-stability oscillator holdover and resilient communications.

When a normal-looking position is wrong
GNSS jamming and spoofing now affect commercial shipping across several high-risk regions. The dangerous failure is not always a blank screen. A receiver can continue producing a plausible position that is wrong, leaving the bridge and shore-side teams looking at the same false answer.

The latest Iridium PNT silicon, integrated at board level
At the heart of Vector M is Iridium’s latest-generation PNT ASIC: a compact 8 × 8 mm device created for direct integration into next-generation positioning and timing products. Solace is an inaugural Iridium PNT ASIC launch partner and among the first organisations globally to integrate and activate the new silicon in its own hardware.
Vector M is not an STL receiver added to a tracker. It is an assured PNT platform designed from board level around the new ASIC. Position, timing and receiver-health data enter the same on-device architecture that evaluates GNSS, inertial behaviour and timing continuity.
That deep integration matters: Iridium PNT is not treated as a separate backup position. It becomes a trusted input to the Solace Fusion Engine and to the confidence attached to every determined fix.
The Solace Fusion Engine
Most resilient trackers compare two sources and raise an alert when they disagree. The patent-pending Solace Fusion Engine goes further: it continuously assesses and fuses three independent position anchors on the device.
- Dual-band GNSS – accurate L1/L5 positioning while the signal remains trustworthy.
- Latest-generation Iridium PNT ASIC – authenticated STL position and timing from low-Earth orbit, independent of GNSS and received at materially higher power.
- Inertial sensing – confirms vessel movement, helps identify inconsistent behaviour and bridges short signal interruptions.
- High-stability oscillator holdover – protects timing continuity during temporary loss or rejection of external sources.
The result is one Determined Position, accompanied by a continuous confidence score and a clear integrity state: Assured, Monitoring, Contested or Dead Reckoned. Assurance happens on the device
The Fusion Engine runs locally on Vector M. It does not need a working data link to determine position integrity, and it continues building the local integrity record if communications are disrupted.
Communications carry the result ashore, they are not part of working it out.
Getting the answer ashore
Cellular. In coastal and port coverage, Vector M can provide frequent position and integrity updates over LTE.
Iridium. Outside terrestrial coverage, Vector M uses Iridium Short Burst Data for configurable scheduled reports and event-triggered integrity alerts. Reporting is subject to satellite visibility and service availability.
Vessel connectivity. Where approved, Vector M can also use the vessel’s existing IP connection, such as Starlink. If that route is unavailable, the unit reverts to its configured cellular and Iridium bearers.

A live fleet view, with the evidence behind every position
The Solace Vector platform gives shore-side operators a live view of each vessel’s reported position and integrity state. Position history and event records show when confidence changed, which source was being used and how Vector responded.
The service supports geofencing, alerts, device grouping, role-based access and an auditable history of user and device activity. Data can also be delivered to approved customer systems through documented APIs and webhooks.
A latitude and longitude show where a system says the vessel is. Vector M also carries the provenance and confidence needed to judge whether that answer should be trusted.

The Solace Vector Service
Vector M is supplied with a single managed service covering the components needed to operate the system. The agreed subscription can include:
- Access to the Solace Vector web platform
- API and webhook data delivery
- An agreed LTE and Iridium reporting profile
- Over-the-air configuration and software updates
- Support from the Solace team
Installation and integration support can be provided separately. Reporting frequency, included data and any use of vessel connectivity are agreed for each fleet and operating profile.
Secure by design
Solace Communications holds Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001 for information security management and ISO 9001 for quality management.
Vector communications and platform access use authenticated, encrypted services. Organisational access is managed through role-based controls, multi-factor authentication and segregated customer tenancy. Detailed security documentation is available during technical review.
A trusted Western and allied supply chain
Vector M is designed, manufactured, integrated and tested in the UK by a UK-owned company. Its approved architecture is built around components sourced from established UK, US, European and allied-nation manufacturers.
No components from Chinese-owned manufacturers are specified in the approved Vector M production BOM. Supply-chain assurance and component-origin information can be provided to DNK and its members during technical due diligence.
Tested where position integrity matters
Vector has been tested and trialled at sea and on land in real contested and denied environments. Those trials shaped the confidence scoring and event record: knowing that a position is wrong can matter as much as producing a position at all.
