MBH (Memory Battery Hub) – NATO Dismounted Operations

The Challenge

A NATO member required a communications and power solution for dismounted operations in areas with little or no connectivity, on a remote exercise testing out new equipment. Units often remained deployed for extended periods without resupply, while still needing access to large volumes of mapping and mission data. Conventional soldier systems provided only limited storage and relied on fragile SD cards, while multiple small batteries created a constant burden of swapping, charging, and carrying spares.

The Solution

Solace supplied the MBH (Memory Battery Hub), a compact, ballistically protected device integrating power, data, and storage into a single hub. The MBH delivered:

Compatibility with secondary MBITR batteries, offering a simple and reliable backup power option already carried in the supply chain.

4TB of onboard memory, enabling operators to carry and access detailed mapping datasets without dependence on connectivity.

A larger integrated battery, significantly extending mission endurance compared to traditional soldier power setups.

This combination ensured operators could remain fully equipped with critical data and sustained power, even during long deployments in austere environments.

Key Results

Increased Data Capacity: Operators could carry and access far more detailed mapping and mission data (4TB) without relying on connectivity.
Extended Mission Endurance: The larger integrated battery allowed longer deployments without frequent battery swaps.
Reduced Logistical Burden: Fewer batteries were needed, and MBITR units offered a simple backup power option.
Air-Travel Safe Design: The MBH eliminated complications associated with transporting batteries as dangerous goods.
Operational Force Multiplier: Combining storage, power, and data management into a single ruggedized unit improved both efficiency and operational capability for NATO dismounted operations.

The Outcome

  • Operators carried far more detailed mapping data, supporting complex planning and navigation in disconnected environments.
  • Reduced logistical burden: fewer batteries to carry and manage, with MBITR units providing a simple contingency option.
  • Extended mission endurance without the frequent battery swaps that typically interrupt operations.
  • Air-travel safe design removed the complications of dangerous goods logistics.

The MBH proved to be a force multiplier for NATO dismounted operations, delivering both logistical efficiency and operational advantage by combining storage, power, and data management into one ruggedised unit.
